There are different tones on bass guitar that you should be aware of when playing different styles.

These tones come from the different pickup types, EQs, and string tone. This video lesson also explains the very basic technique of thumping or slapping the bass.

good vid. not very loud, but very well made otherwise.

finally i see how slap bass really should be done! ive been hitting it with the side of my thumb, sounded horrible.

I can't bounce my thumb, i tend to go trough the string and let the string underneath catch it and then i either strikes the string on the way back (Double Thumb) or just go back
