Hey everybody,
For this column, we came up with something a little different. Myself (
Bill Hudson) and my guitar partner and fellow UG columnist
John Slaughter are working on a new project, called
Coldera, which we're gonna release sometime in 2010.
This is an instrumental hard rock/heavy metal project we've been planning on doing for many years, but our hectic schedules kinda kept us from being able to do it. Now we're happy to be working 100% on it and hope you guys will like it when it comes up.
We wanna give you guys a little preview of our first song, entitled
Melodicus Counterpointus, along with two different tabs for it,
Bill's and
John's parts.
This is not the entire song, just a minute and a half preview of it, but we figured it would be a good idea for you guys to have a good taste of it, plus to have something cool to study.
This song is really simple as far as the structure goes. We always try to stick to verse/chorus structures, despite writing instrumental music.
The intro/verse and chorus are all in the same key, F# aeolian (A major). Then we switch to B aeolian (D major) during the solo section.
Notice that we trade off the melody during the verse and harmonize it at the end. It gives it a pretty cool effect that we're gonna be using a lot in our music.
Nothing too complicated as far as the notes go and the construction of the parts. The chord progressions are really straight forward as well.
So… here are the tabs for download:

Hope you guys enjoy it… and see you next month!
Rock on!
