Have you ever wondered how a songwriter decides which chords go with which scales? What notes are in a chord in a where did they come from? In this lesson, Chris guides you through the basic concepts of Chord and Scale theory. He uses and excerpt from "Somewhere Over the Rainbow", since it uses a wide range of notes within the Major scale. This lesson is based on a G Major chord and a G Major scale.

Next time: The Chromatic Scale with "Flight of the Bumblebee"

Chris Cavendish is a music instructor at PowerPlay Music School in Clarksville, Indiana (Louisville, KY area). He holds degrees in Music Education and Broadcast Journalism from Concord University. Chris is currently putting the final touches on his first book, which can be found on his website . He is available to be hired for sessions and live settings. You can often find him logged into Ultimate-Guitar.

Looking at this video again, I personally think it is very bad.

I am not proud of this one.

It seemed a good idea at the time and worked very well in private lessons. Gotta start somewhere.

The next one will need to have a more upbeat format.

There were also some technical glitches caused when UG changed the format from wmv to flash. That is probably why they preferred that I sent it as an flv.

NEXT TIME WILL BE BETTER.
