Laaaaame.

No seriously, I dont get the point of slapping a guitar. Its interesting, but thats about it. IMO, slap is overrated by now, for either bass or guitar, and the main reason for that is the people that play only 4 normal notes but a billion dead notes. Theres no texture or feel in that, and its degrading to the slap style.

Kicking a snare with his feet while slapping a guitar. Well, that's new.

the point of slap is to create rhythm not melody, as a bass player and guitarist I believe rhythm is more important than note-playing

he barely taught anything, and he wasn't very clear with what he did teach.

Sounds loads better on a bass... on a guitar it's just gimmicky. That said, it's worth it just to impress your friends.

I was just about to say Miyavi is pretty much known for doing that. I'm pretty sure he's got a lesson video for slap guitar too. But I really don't like Miyavi. As far as J-rock goes, I'm a GazettE and X-Japan dude.

As a bassist and guitarist I must say that I did cringe a bit from seeing that. That just sounds bad. Why do guitarists just not know what sound to use for slap?
I agree with KasanDude, it is degrading to the style. But melodic simplicity can be great with slap, to get a funky rhythm it's gotta be the notes that you don't play rather than what you do. Unfortunately most people suck at that. Only decent guitarist I've seen pull of slap is Buckethead. And if you want to see a good performance of the art form, go watch a Mark King video. Actually try this one http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QKI8pFqWm0s , few can match a performance like that

I give this man mad props. I love it when people think outside the box. I get tired of hearing the same old sound all the time. Very funky, I love it!

Take the lesson for what it is, if you won't apply it then why leave a response? I think his slapping sounded pretty sweet and it's something new that could be used in funky situations, imagine a bass and guitar both slapping some awesome riff? don't hate on the dude, he's trying his best, you're probably not if you're ridiculing him.

Lost_Rose :

If your not good enough dont hate on him.

Its a prety sweet concept that can be carried further.

Fair play to the guy, it sounds great with a funk rythem. If you dont like the style so what, Shredding to me sounds crap what you gunna do?
