Hi this is John Slaughter, currently with Written in Blood. Today's lesson is the solo from Wrath of Ages, a track from my former band Skindustry. Although not my most difficult, this solo takes a lot of basic shapes, like arpeggios, scale patterns, tapping, and cranks the tempo to make a classic heavy metal solo. I wanted to share this with you today because it gives a beginning glimpse into my style of playing, like Figure 4 shows, and yet has many useful patterns that can be developed to enhance your playing as well.
Each figure is shown as a practice tool to be developed, to tempo, and later connected together. This kind of practice regimen proves beneficial towards learning any of your favorite solos, songs, or the writing of your own material. Enjoy this lesson and I will see you all next month!
The chord progression follows this pattern - VI, IV, VI, V, I, VII
The Key is D minor
Guitar Tuning: D G C F A D
Dude, seriously. There's a difference between shred with no feeling and playing something that suits the song. If you'd heard the song, you'd know it fits.
I'm getting sick of these douchebags that think speed instantly means no feel.
