Welcome back to Steal This Video series! First off, I was impressed to see that the current article is a six one from the series which started just 2 month ago. Nice job, mr. PickNGrin ;) As we have said recently, we will get back to less advanced stuff for the upcoming articles. Yeah, we know that there are loads of shredders and advanced players on UG, but amount of beginner guitarists is huge too -- so we should keep a fair balance between beginners and advanced stuff.

Yet another announcement is that we're working on another feature for you guys, that will be more interactive but still related with live music and your guitar playing. I'll shut up for now, but be sure to check out UG Contributions forum for more details.

As usually, you may leave your comments and suggestions below the article in the comments section and in series' dedicated thread at this location. We do want to know you experience with the videos and get some fresh ideas for future articles.

- Zappp

Video Lesson:

This week we'll start a 2 part series on Barre Chords. In this lesson we'll discuss the differences between open chords and barre chords, then introduce the 4 main primary barre chords. I'll give a few tips on how you might position your hand to play the barre chords cleanly, and explain how each barre chord pattern relates to the guitar neck to produce a chord in all 12 keys. With these 4 patterns and some practice you should be able to play 48 chords. I'll suggest a couple of practice routines and give you a quick demo using "Light My Fire" and "Gloria" as examples. In two weeks, part 2 will introduce 4 more patterns of secondary barre chords.

LOL! Now THERES an idea! I have a bass, I mostly play it when I record, but I'm not too knowledgable, maybe I could do a demo, or get a guest to do it.

damn pick, i think you've got a cult following now

Maybe post a video on apreggios??

arpeiggos?? really?? thats the FIRST (and i mean FIRST)thing i learned on guitar (house of the rising sun).... it's a chord that is picked one string at a time in sequence as opposed to strumming it. video lesson not required. u want an arpeiggo listen or look up "house of the rising sun" in the tabs... ahh screw it, it takes less than 30 seconds to teach in video, go for it! lol

That is an arpeggiated chord... An arpeggo has more than one note on each string. I dont know much about them myself because Im not that good on guitar but my freind knows about them.

theres no such thing as a stupid question, only stupid answers

hey, everyones gotta learn from somewhere, right?

An arpeggo has more than one note on each string.

really? maybe we can get pick to teach an advanced arpeiggo than?

i mean i've learned how to arpeiggo enough to not strike them in sequence (listen to Guns and Roses's cover of Knockin' On Heaven's Door) to know what im talkin bout, but im not quite sure what other type of arpeiggo u are referring to

Thank you Pick...Kirk was kind enough to create a lesson for Lennon's acoustic version of "Love"; it has several barre chords. I tried to make Lennon's Christmas song my first, but you were right, it was too much for me. To be honest I had no idea what a barre chord was until I saw your lesson. Thanks so much for this lesson and all the others here. I'm now on my way to learning my first song. Thank you again Pick!!

I'm having a hell of a time doing any barre chords on the top half of the neck. No mater how hard I press down, I can't get all the strings to give me a clean sound. I have a Yamaha F-335. Anyone else experience this? Is it me or the guitar?
