Tablature for guitar in video

Download video file [WMV format]

(9.9, 84 votes)

Hello again and welcome to Steal This Video - the 22th part of the video series, called Blues Scale! Show you support for the series in case you want to see more vids from Pick N' Grin!

As usually, you may leave your comments and suggestions below the article in the comments section and in series' dedicated thread at this location. We do want to know you experience with the videos and get some fresh ideas for future articles.

Video Lesson:

Greetings!

Time to take a break from the acoustic and break out the SG! In this lesson we introduce the Blues Minor Pentatonic scale. After some brief discussion about the scale, we’ll go over a few blues licks. We stay in the key of A, and have included a 7 minute long blues backing track for practice. Recommended pre-requisite videos are Steal This Video Soloing part’s 1 and 2, and Steal This Video 12 Barre Blues. All STV’s can be found at this location.

Be sure and print out the included diagram of the blues scale, and the tab of 5 blues licks. Some of the licks make use of double stops, and a split bending technique that’s a bit challenging. I want to salute our forum moderators at UG for their support in keeping the threads clean, nice work guys! Kristopher Dahl and I are planning a collaboration video, so stay tuned!

Peace, out!
-Pick

These types of video lessons that teach some general basics and include a popular song to demonstrate techniques are awsome. I've learned little bits from each one of Pick's lessons, and it has inspired me to even learn a couple of the songs that I probably wouldnt have otherwise. Keep them coming... I look forward to the next one.

Awesome lesson pick, I've picked up some cool stuff off this, and also expanded my knowledge of notes in keys because of the scale diagram. Also before this lesson I didn't know what penta meant.

A is my favourite key, and the backing is in A, so I've had a lot of fun with the backing track.

Again Pick, thanks so much for this lesson.

thank you pick, you've helped me alot in all of your videos. i cant afford a teacher, so this website is mine. its all right to cut up in the forums but dont come to these lessons and articles and such just to say negative crap about someone whos trying to help. you might not need it but some people gain a lot from things like this.

It's a typo, English is our webmaster's 2nd language, so we see things like this from time to time, give him a break---he makes this all possible.
It IS Jason Newstead...isn't it?
Yes..it is. Again this what our webmaster selected, I dont have much say in it, I really don't care, I am greatful to have UG host my vids.

(I know I already talked about them, but I just can't get over it XD)

1. Where did you get those pants?! Did you buy them like that, did you get them ripped, did you do it yourself..? I can't find any ripped jeans where I live (small country town in Portugal =P)

2.What's the song at the beggining?! 'Get Of Your Ass And Jam!' *awesome guitar solo*

Thanks Pick! Learning scales is great fun...not...but this really gives me a better idea of what to do with them and makes learning a heck of a lot more fun. Really appreciate the explanation as well from Blues Cat Pick.
And to the Mods who keep this forum from becoming nothing but a flame war between preadolescent punks who can not find a G string with both hands keep up the great work, as it really can be a chore!

Bought the Levis new, worn and ripped from use. But once the knees blew out I helped the rippage along on the thighs.
What's the song at the beggining?! 'Get Of Your Ass And Jam!'

Thats George Clinton! Look for either The Parlaments or Funkadelic.

Somewhere along the line, could you teach Texas Style Blues, and stylewise stuff, more specificly, what does Hendrix do to make his stuff sound like Hendrix? (e.g. I love the guitar in Bold as Love and I know it's him, but I can't pinpoint why.)

I love how this video isn't something I can't do: "Dis iss A minor" *plays lightnight fast* Dis iss A minor at la 999BPM *breaks sound barrier*. How am I supposed to learn from someone doing that? (Not a big fan of shred anyways. SRV all the way.)

Awesome.

I like to entertain around the campfire too! This what I like about acoustic guitar, no amps, backing tracks or other musicians needed. You can entertain others without assistance. You will have to hunt through the other STV's, many of them have songs included that can be performed by one person on acoustic.
Is there a way to rotate and/or mirror those scale and chord images? I can't comprehend as i'm a lefty.

Yes, copy the neck and paste it into an editor like MS Paint, or probably Photo editor. Then find the tools to "flip and rotate".

It's me on a '56 Chevy Bel-air two door that I rebuilt--I used to be into hot rodding cars. But its not a real cover, I was only 11 when Woodstock happened, there is a give away the cover is fake---Nixon was president during Woodstock...Not Carter.

Smokey Amp :

For a blues player, you seem to have an awfully digital amp. Surely a valve'd suit you better?

The http://38.103.144.66/files/blues_backing_track.mp3 and http://38.103.144.66/files/blues_scale.jpg links are dead...
Can a webmaster fix them?

If you go to the files/ directory, without a file name, you can get a listing of the directory. Navigate to guitar_lessons, and the files are in there. Alternately, make the link:

http://38.103.144.66/files/guitar_lessons/blues_sca le.jpg

and

http://38.103.144.66/files/guitar_lessons/b lues_backing_track.mp3

Hi, the link you posted to the JPG of the scale turns up a 404 error. I had a look through your directory and the correct link is:

http://38.103.144.66/files/guitar_lessons/blues_scale .jpg
