matt's back to les paul's? i love my les paul, but the upper fret access is hard.

I liked the part where he explained how important fretting hand strength is, I'm definitely going to practice tapping sweep patterns.

this video is great, it's amazing how much progress i've made just today after watching this, playing sweeps with the fret hand while dampening the strings with the picking hand actually helped me improve a lot

You can't be sure. Gibson custom made their first 7 string Les Paul's for Matt.

I could see where your prediction is coming from though, seeing as how Shattering the Skies Above was in drop D.

If anything, I bet they will mix tune the album, varying tuning with some songs.

if you dont have long fingers and you find it hard to sweep pick or anything, walk into a guitar shop and ask to be fitted with a guitar with the length of your fingers for comfortability and easier playing abilities. just so the palm of your hand isnt stretching over your fret board to get certain notes, you want one where your pinky finger can atleast touch the A string.

the part with dampening the strings with the right hand is interesting, even if he did play the two most popular sweep picking exercises. overall good lesson, though.

The most interesting part was the cool guitar riff in the beginning. The intro to the video, not anything the guys from Trivium are playing.

I thought so too, but Paolo said on the Trivium World message board that its going to be all in Drop D, and Matt also said it in an interview somewhere.

This is a direct quote from Paolo on the boards: "@majeksdrummer: It's all in Drop D tuning, start to finish."

Now i have to say something funny...Size doesn`t matter that much...Sure ,if u have longer fingers you will advance faster, but still people with short fingers can become very aggressive players if they just practice a just bit more... You don`t need a special guitar if u are about to learn to play really good. A good guitarist plays good even on a shitty guitar...

for sweep shapes with the same notes all the way up 3 strings, how do you position your fingers? such as in exercise 4, your bar a note, but when i sweep it the notes ring or mute wrong. any tips?

When there are multiple notes on the same fret across different strings, you need to kind of 'roll' your fingers down or up the fretboard. So you only put pressure on the string that is being played but you are damping out all of the other strings. It's a very hard technique to master.
