Rocka4life :

He didn't create the chinese scale :/ its actually the standard japanese scale. and that indian scale = jewish scale

POSTED: 05/09/2011 - 11:41 am / quote |
La Moda :

he shoulda just called them marty friedman scales, since like rocka4life stated they're just Jewish and Japanese scaled =p

WORST LESSON I HAVE SEEN. That is a mockery and misinformation of Chinese and Indian scales. Sounds nothing like them. He is misguiding people with his own lack of awareness. Please check this song out to be clear on what I mean: Mother Jane - Broken. Wait for the solo. Now that is Indian!

POSTED: 05/10/2011 - 05:14 am / quote |
dizbhrigs :

I would also recommend Mother Jane - Mindstreet for some good guitars on Indian Scales.

This isn't nearly as racist as I was expecting. He doesn't call them Chinese Food and Indian Food 'cause they're from China or India, it's 'cause one sounds 'sweet' and the other sounds 'spicy'.

Seems totally reasonable to me.

Sounds like yet another so-called musician with no knowledge of theory whatsoever.

Macabre_Turtle :

Ouch. He's a decent player, but he should stay far away from teaching.

Horrible lesson, but still looking forward to seeing Unearth at Mayhem Fest!

There aren't any scales to be invented. I like these guys that "invent" scales. I guess it's cool that you "come up with it" on your own....but...they're all taken, actually.

Don't worry. You're not missing out on much

Good lesson. I don't need theory that much, I want to hear the sound and the feel. And he thaught that very good IMO.
Besides Buz and the other Unearth-guitarist (Sorry, forgot the name) are pretty good players. Check out the solo of the chosen by them.

He doesn't play the 7th string in this lesson. Why include it in the TAB?

That's the song!

Guppy_Odyssey :

Wow. This guy is incredibly uninformed, and his lesson has nothing to do with how scales are constructed or understood in Chinese or Indian classical music, and not to mention is more than slightly racist.

POSTED: 05/14/2011 - 06:31 pm / quote |
AntwanL :

He did "create" them and he doesnt claim to. He just said it sounded cool and he calls them "sweet" and "spicy" or like chinese and indian food. We all call stuff different names but no one claims theft of material. Yea he's kinda clueless at theory but quit jumping down his throat about it.

What the **** is racist about "Chinese food" or "Indian Food"?
Idiots.

Idiot as well, I suppose Thom Yorke is a so-called musician because he never bothered to learn theory.

Idiot.

ProgJazzMath :

At least listen to what he is teaching. They aren't chinese or indian scales... they are just scales he likes to play. One he calls chinese because it's sweet sounding, and the other indian because it's spicy. In no way is this offensive. Geez man, If only UG.com was overrun with smart users and not a bunch of idiots.

That would make everything too easy, though.
