DragonForce could possibly have the most entertaining live show around these days. Between the comic antics and the insanely skilled techniques of guitarists Herman Li and Sam Totman, it’s hard to find a dull moment.
This summer DragonForce had to skim down their show a bit to make room for the other bands on the Mayhem Festival bill, so the amount of downtime almost necessitated nonstop humor backstage as well. When UG.TV caught up with Li and Totman in Kansas City, it was decided on the spur of the moment that it would be more fun if their fellow dressing room “roomie” participated in the interview. Lucky for us, that roomie happened to be Mastodon’s Bill Kelliher.
Herman and Sam are the best guitarists around. DragonForce is the best "Power/Heavy/Neo-Classical Metal" band in this entire world. Using their songs in a video games as custom tracks is so cool (ex: racing games). All those fast twin-guitars, lengthy solos, video game-influenced melodies & noises (works for hard-core video gamers like me) & epic lyrics... So innovative stuff & a great MIX! There ain't anyone like them... DF KEEP ROCKING!

Sweet interview - I always enjoy seeing Herman and Sam, on stage and in interviews. And adding the genius behind Mastodon's technicality is just ****ing brilliant also. Nice to know that even if I didn't take lessons and have no 'real' training, greatness can still be achieved. It's also refreshing to find real musicians who actually have input about the whole 'Guitar Hero' craze; if that much time and energy people put into that game was put into actually learning how to play it'd be a very different ballgame. Catch you on tour!

I enjoy seeing signs like "HermanForce" cuz he does make the music, not the rest (well except the keytarist he's actually really good) but anyway Sam to me is a copycat of Herman, he does exactly what Herman basically does, and the drummer acts like he's so great when he's just a speed metal drummer, same routine over and over, and that being said, the singer thinks he's the next Bruce Dickinson.

I have one word to desribe either Sam's or Herman's style: scales, and lots of them. That's like saying the death metal or thrash metal drummers out there (who happen to be well know, IF that) are SOOOO GOOD. No they're not. Tell them to play a jazz beat and watch them trip over their own asses. Same goes with These two.

lol I've heard that too and I've seen videos of them playing live and they SUCK. I'm not talking about just videos taken with crappy cameras either, I mean videos with high quality sound so you can actually hear what they play. Herman gets praise for playing shit that he can't actually play live and no one likes Sam anyway so I'm not going to bother bashing him. "Best shredders ever" is a load of shit. If they're the "best shredders ever", I could be nominated for best guitarist ever; you know, since we're basically just pulling titles out of our asses now, based on evidence which proves otherwise.

There are a lot douches out there. I've seen Dragonforce 3 times, all 3 times they weren't headlining, and they were pretty good. I guess a bunch of people got bad shows or are jealous. I don't know why people dislike them so much. I've chilled with them backstage and they're cool guys. And they're not arrogant or say they're the greatest or anything. Maybe you guys shouldn't get hammered or high before you go to a show.

ive seen both live, and DF is way more entertaining live. Edguy is amazing at festivals, especially with the singers antics, but DF takes the cake as most entertaining show
