While some bands from Texas might inject a heavy dose of southern-fried rock into their music, San Antonio’s Girl In A Coma took on a moodier, more introspective style directly inspired by artists like The Smiths and Joy Division.
In 2006 the all-girl trio caught the eyes and ears of fellow rocker Joan Jett, who immediately signed the band to her label Blackheart Records. In a scene that is flooded with pop-punk girl bands, vocalist/guitarist Nina Diaz, bassist Jenn Alva, and drummer Phanie Diaz are attracted more to low-key, eighties blend of rock that is likely to stand out when they perform at selected dates on this year’s Warped Tour.
