Since 2000, bassist “Evil”J. McGuire has been churning out the melodies to accompany frontwoman Otep Shamaya’s lyrical vision in the alternative metal band OTEP.
While Shamaya’s stance has been more of an outspoken one in the music world, McGuire doesn’t mind taking on a more quiet-yet-creative role. As someone who has played multiple instruments and graduated from the Berklee School of Music in Boston, McGuire delivers both the technical ability and emotional content that permeates OTEP’s music.
UG.TV caught up with McGuire at OTEP’s Kansas City gig, and the bassist (who is perhaps the nicest guy ever to be nicknamed “Evil”) discussed what’s ahead for his band this year.
