I agree about David being a horrible actor unfortunately lol. But I like the fact that he takes out of all this pent up anger and murder out on music and video. Shows he's got a true affection for it. it's great.

tasteless and wrong? I don't think so. I don't think that a subject that is this prevalent in society, something that he has had to deal with personally and something he is so strongly against can be considered tasteless and wrong. The video is showing the pain that goes along with suicide, and he's trying to make a point. Do you really think he wants to disrespect anyone? Sometimes it has to be brutal for people to pay attention. It got your attention didn't it?

iclipseco :

this song is definitely done justice by the video, portraying the song exactly as it should be portrayed, and not giving everything away but letting you figure it out, making the realizations effect all that much more powerful.
in the end we find that their are two different speakers in the song, the first is the one who comes upon his dead lover devin, and the second is the devil who tempts him to kill himself to join her. the realization is that this is something very real that happens to many people who come home to find a loved one dead by their own hand, they find themselves tempted to kill themselves if only to be with them again inside the fire.
Dark but good song. Dark but very justifying video.

the video (and the song) directly relates to a time in his life when he walked in on his girlfriend who had killed herself like in the video. Hello People!!

You have just seen the video and lost all of the perspective between the video and the lyrics. This video is just a reflection of what a person goes thru when a friend or a loved one, because of his problems decides that he don't care about being alive anymore. That's why they make the warning at the begining of the video. About the technical abilities of Dan Donegan playing or soloing, in my opinion he might be a player that doesn't arrange complex and fast riffs or solos but he just play in his personal style or taste. Question for the guitar gurus out there (I'm going to be dismember to pieces for this) What defines a good player or shredder? Speed, Technique, Knowledge or something else? For me a good player is the one to is capable of express himself thru his instrument. Some of the greatest players just play their thoughts thru their instrument without caring about what the hell other players are playing. Take for example AC/DC's Angus Young or even his brother Malcom both play simple structure songs but they DON'T GIVE A FUCK WHAT PEOPLE THINK! They just express themselves thru those simple songs. What to hear an under rated guitar player who is awesome look for Bill Steer (Carcass) in Wikipedia. Even the great Michael Ammot says he was his influence. HE JUST PLAY WITHOUT CARING WHAT PEOPLE THINK ABOUT HIS SKILLS!

Another Awesome Song From Disturbed.....

The words explain a deep and intense spiritual experience from many points of view.
'The Bible' plainly states, that if you take your own life, you will go to Hell. Therefor, "Devon won't go to heaven".
David seems to be expressing 'The Devil's' point of view in his words. Lost Souls are known to go to Hell and the souls will be received for eternity. If you want to end the feeling of loss {Grief}, release your soul to the devil and live eternity in 'The Fire' with Devon.
'Take the word of ONE IMMORTAL'? There are 3 Immortal souls... 'God', 'Jesus', and 'The Devil'.....

Also, as a christian, like Manabouttown said, i know killing yourself makes you go to Hell (where comes the "Inside the Fire" title) which is why I certainly would never think of killing myself.

Speaking of which, I should be at church now but I'm sick, so I couldn't go.

People who commit suicide tend not to be religious and think it will liberate them from pain, but instead will double their pain.

Good song. I read earlier that this is about on of his girlfriend's killing herself and I think props to him for singing about it but i'm not sure a high budget sexy production rock video is tasteful in the circumstances. Good song though, interesting concept and will give the album a go.

I think stuff like that more or less is just a rumor....because of the video. it was either him or a family member if it all. When people write songs/videos they usually reference it to something we can all in some way relate too. Girlfriend is the easiest way to portray a universal idea of suicide in a music video considering they are all guys.

The rest of the stuff on CD is actually better(it least what Ive heard of it) than this song. I don't like this one as much as the rest.

Other than that, awesome song.

I don't know where you get your facts from, but Protestants have one of the highest rank of suicide in the nation maybe you should try going to school sometime.

Alright dude, this is where I think religion goes unreasonable to everyone and themselves and goes over the top. First of all, Christians commit suicide all the time. Second, you say that you wouldnt want to commit suicide cause then you go to hell, so does that mean you are afraid of going to hell? of dying? wow, I know why you stick with christianity. And finally, turning christian wouldnt help most people's thoughts about suicide, your religion isnt that special dude, neither is any religion- so get reasonable for once

Well sometimes religion tells you the pro's and con's of the weight your decisions but in this case it doesn't matter what your beliefs are. The simple fact of being alive is the what matters.

This comes from a person that tried to KILL HIMSELF 2 TIMES.

Just work your problems out, and always look around because there's someone more **** up than you and he might be laughing at his situation.

A) Its a band not one person. B) Your are insensitive and have no idea what you are talking about. For you to open your mouth and criticize a bands song writing process or content makes you look like a complete retard. The song is dear to the singer and its music. You can't criticize what a band writes about that just makes you dumber than the people that criticize a way a band looks.

What do you mean you can't criticize what a band writes about? Some of the best songs in the world are songs that are lyrically driven. If you don't contemplate what artists are writing then you are doing a disservice to them. Artists want their to lyrics to be thought about, that is why they write them. Also, you never point out why I am wrong, you just say I am wrong. I would love to hear your opinion as to why disturbed is not commercial and not just writing lyrics that they know will sell well.

I see your point on the political shit, but this one has personal meaning (as pointed out by so many others). Draiman's girlfriend, Devon, committed suicide. So I do see why you think that, it's just that there's more to it than "people hate suicide".
This entire album (from what I've heard) is kind of a personal outlet. I've got a feeling that this will top 10 Years' Division as my album of the year.

Dude This song is about the lead singers girlfriend who overdosed on heroin and the devil speaking to him over his shoulder. i have mixed emotions. He might have written about this to get it off his back, in which case i respect him. on the other hand its darker and i think he might of just had lack of subject matter. that isnt cool. He said in an interview on headbangers ball that this album is supposed to be uplifting, but i dont see it in this song.

I love most of disturbed's older stuff, but his new stuff seems so commercial that I can't even get into it.[quote]

He said in an interview on headbangers ball that this album is supposed to be uplifting, but i dont see it in this song.

no its the first. the song is supposed to tell the listener how bad suicide is and how it can really **** a person up if they know someone that commits suicide

this song is definitely done justice by the video, portraying the song exactly as it should be portrayed, and not giving everything away but letting you figure it out, making the realizations effect all that much more powerful.
in the end we find that their are two different speakers in the song, the first is the one who comes upon his dead lover devin, and the second is the devil who tempts him to kill himself to join her. the realization is that this is something very real that happens to many people who come home to find a loved one dead by their own hand, they find themselves tempted to kill themselves if only to be with them again inside the fire.
Dark but good song. Dark but very justifying video.

very true. i have considered suicide in the past (dont call the hotline it was the pst im over it) and like you said

Other than that, awesome song.

Awesomeguitarguy, Christiantiy is what most people (who want a chance to live)run to when their in pain of such sort. And yes it would help you make and if you make effort to know the one true God. He will help and guide those in their "walk through the Valley of the Shadow of Death". That verse clearly states a humans walk through pain and suffering. Jesus is my Lord and billions of other followers Lord too. Why do you think Christianity is the highest populated religion in the world? Because God is real and its our choice to follow into the Light or the Fire.

I don't mind the song, thought it was okay, not great like some nut jobs are thinking, but okay. I think that the video was over the top for the subject matter. I don't care if something like this did happen to the guy its not cool to go at a video like that. I mean damn come on there is one point where he looks like he's bangin' her, that's uncalled for, and the blood? They really are "Disturbed", the end of the video will suit them all well if their careers dry up after this.

Theres so much irony here in the debate earlier about Christianity. The irony? David is Jewish. Growing up, he was supposed to have received training to become a Rabbi, but opposed his family's wishes for him to become a Rabbi. The whole suicide prospect is because when he was a teen, his girlfriend committed suicide, which led him to start doing drugs and almost decided to kill himself out of the depression.

Amazing song though, and the video matches it perfectly. PaperStSoapCo, how can you call this song and video "tasteless"? If you had to go through what Draiman had to as a teenager, I think your mind would be drastically changed. You sound like a pampered little boy who has never had to deal with loss in their life. And then wishing for him to burn in hell? Now that is tasteless.

i think that the video is perfect for the subject matter. if your girlfriend has ever told you that she wanted to kill herself and you know she wasnt kidding you would too. i dont think there could be an over-the-top video for suicide prevention, but i guess im just a douche for caring.
