Hey everyone welcome back to Songwriting 101 and Happy Holidays! Sorry for the short hiatus, but I’ve been quite busy as of late and in particular I’ve been on set filming for the re-make of “Fame.”
Goddamn you're annoying. I don't think you are going down to your students' level, you just don't know shit. That can be corrected though, unlike your unmistakable doucheness. Before you teach or even work, know your shit, please.

Hey man, chill. I won't pretend that I have an indepth knowledge of music theory/chords but if you think you can do a better job upload a video of your trying to explain the same concept.
Give some constructive critique instead of bashing people. There is always room for improvement, man.

It amazes me people like this can describe others as "annoying" and say they exhibit "doucheness." -.-

why do we have to subscribe to your mailing list to get the downloads?
Isn't that obvious? ;]
Anyway, this lesson was better than previous ones. But still, you need to cover more theoretical ground, not just show ideas that everyone already knows, but doesn't understand.
Thanks for watching and I'm glad this was helpful to many of you.

not a bad lesson for beginners man.
If you Pizza when you should have French Fried, you're gonna have a bad time

I have a system that automatically sends an e-mail w/ the downloads to the e-mail you provided. It makes it easier to deal with and I can notify you each time I release a new video. However, you can unsubscribe as well.

I'm doing a huge video project on the Art of Counterpoint at the moment (which also gets heavy into voiceleading), so I may make a video in the near future talking about a few advanced theoretical concepts...perhaps the Neapolitan or Aug 6.

The screenshot of this video is a hair-sweep. Not watching it.
just because he has long hair that he wants to keep out of his face, doesn't mean he's an emo twat to be ignored and refuted.
There is just soo much side topics he talks about that you lose exactly what he was trying to explain. I completely forgot this was about harmonization.
Hey Kyle. this video was personally very helpfull for my song writing and general theory, but i feel this is only because i already have lot's of theory knowledge and experience with these jazzy chords. I think you do touch on very usefull subjects, this especially that you don't really find in video lessons, but i feel you need to work on your teaching technique to allow everyone to take from it. I'm sure you have no doubt noticed lot's of people slating your videos, i personally think you are a great asset to the guitarist on this website so i'd love to see you targetting everyone a lil better so they can appreciate you aswell.
cheers.

Thanks and I'm glad you've found this video quite helpful. How so do you mean by targeting everyone a little better? Some of these lessons are very basic and this one is a little more advanced (that should cover most people). I'm open to ideas though

Cool...beagle also, or a different breed?

I dig that song, but that's ANYTHING but a glistening chord. I would assume a 'glistening chord' would be, bright, higher in pitch.
Good work though.
Thats the great thing about music, it's completely subjective. That b5 or #11 on top sounds very "glisteny" to me, but obviously not to you, so theres a high chance that your arrangement of this song would be much different. I'd love to hear it!
Kole... I am certain you are a skilled musician, very knowledgeable and all that. But you talk too much. Get to the "meat". I really like your version of Wonderland, nice job on that. However, your lessons need more theory. When your talking, hold your guitar and give examples with the camera ZOOMED IN on your hands. UG is a tough crowd man, and I'm really tempted to flame you, but I can tell you are an honest good guy, so I won't. You need to come off less pretentious. Just get to the playing. And post the damn tabs on this page. No one wants to sign up for a newsletter. It's fine if you include a link for those who are interested, though. But for people like me, we just want the tab included with the lesson so it can be easily accessed. That's what most other guys who post lessons do. I would also suggest plugging your guitar into an amp so it's easier to hear, and maybe you need a mic. And don't talk about "colors" anymore. That's way too subjective and pretentious. Makes you sound like you are trying to be Hendrix or something. Just explain why certain chords sound jazzy or happy or gloomy. Once again, I respect you and appreciate the time you put into this, but you should make some minor adjustments. PLEASE DON'T MAKE US SIGN UP FOR THE NEWSLETTER.

It's horrible when people care more for who is playing the music, than the music that is being played. When you prioritize like that, it shows how much you respect music. Haha. Without a visual, you can't tell if a musician has long emo hair, anyways.

I was hoping he would, and I agree on your behalf if he needs more incentive to. I watched the first video and found that I watched 15 minutes of ranting, and received 10 seconds of useful information, I just don't have the patience. If you can listen to Barack and "get to the meat" of things, I'll start trying to watch again. Until then, I think I'll just read the constant flaming that your videos never fail to attract, so much more entertaining =P
Thanks again to all of you who enjoyed this video, I'm glad it helped

I try to respond to all of the constructive comments left on my videos, however, there are some comments that are just pointless (and don't merit a response) and I also just recently had a death in the family.
I appreciate your post though and will comment below.
I agree that I do tend to talk a little bit to much, as I'm usually excited about anything that deals with Songwriting/Composition. I'll try to cut that down in my next few videos.
I disagree with the signing up thing though. 600+ people just from this video would also disagree.
I haven't had any other complaints on the volume of my guitar/voice, but I'll look into this further.
I usually speak about "colors" and "emotions" more, because the majority of guitarists are not trained well in theory. I would confuse a lot more people if I instead spoke about the Tritones present in a G7#11.
Thanks for watching and I appreciate your constructive post.

Hey Kole. Don't let these guys get you down. You're doing an awesome job! Anyway, you sound like you need help. Check this site out! http://www.speech-language-therapy.com/l...
dude he doesn't need help with his lisp, that's not why people don't understand him. I think it WOULD help, as "obama" said to put the tab on the page and although 600+ people signed up, i'm sure even more would be able to take information away if u put the tabs on the page. ALso, some may have signed up purely in an effort to understand.
anyways do what u want
whatever...
I found this video good, if you don't like the amount of talking it's easy to skip over it to the parts where he plays.
The sound quality has a bit of room to improve though Kole, the speakers on this computer aren't very good though. It would probably sound fine on my other computer I imagine.

He's right chill out a little man. try doing it yourself. ther'e only 12 videos on here about songwriting anyways. I liked the video, but when you started talking about 5ths and 3rds and fourths you might've gone over some of your audiences heads. I understod what you were saying because I've been studying piano for 9 years, and just relearned the circle of 5ths this time for guitar. I think you should try doing some videos on music theory. I would like to know more about those extentions and how 7ths 9ths and 11ths can help the sound.
Wait, was this video trying to teach me something or just advertise this pretentious, rambling muppet's stuff? I mean... the entire video could have been made in a quarter of the time, and I really don't want to subscribe to ANYHTING just to get the tabs.
The closest I got to learning anything from this was remembering how much I hate 'Walking in a Winter Wonderland'.
So basically you're saying to choose the chord. . .
1. the main notes of the chord (root, 3rd, 5th) from the notes in the melody
2. add extensions to the chord to create any additional feeling
. . .because that's what I got from this video.
