Hello everyone and welcome back to Songwriting 101! It's been a while since our last video lesson, but I think you'll be happy with the latest installment of this series.

Today, we'll be talking about the "Omnibus Progression". Traditionally it's usage was mainly by composers of the Romantic era, especially Brahms. However, we will not only look at a traditional exercise with the "Omnibus Progression," but will also redefine and expand the concept outside of it's traditional usage for application in practical styles used today like: Rock, Jazz, Metal, Pop, and more.

If you'd like to listen to an example of a traditional "Omnibus Progression" and view the notation for a ton more examples (all FREE of course), just follow This Link and tell me where I should send it.

Download the Jazz Omnibus and Traditional Omnibus exaples files for this video.

Happy Holidays and Enjoy!

Hey everyone, I just watched the video and realized that you can't see some of the text at the bottom of the video. I'll fix that up and hopefully we'll have the updated video up within the next few days.

However, you should still be able to understand and apply the concept w/o the additional text comments.

Best of luck and enjoy!

Great job my friend! The point about using it as a bridge is exactly what I was thinking. It might be a little over the heads of the majority of viewers here, but the omnibus can also be used with diminished 7 chords for an interesting effect.

You can see the text if you watch fullscreen.

This is an interesting lesson and Im pleased to say I actually learned something. Usually every lesson on here is for absolute beginners.

Also you should move your "water pipe" out from behind you when you make videos, even if it is for tobacco use only.

Glad you picked up some useful information! Haha, as for the "water pipe" that's actually a pink maraca and rainstick. Although, when I look back at the video I can see why you may have thought other wise :p.
